What is Sustainability?
sustain | ability
Sustainability can be defined many ways, but one of the most popular definitions was written in 1987 when the Brundtland Commission, a subcommittee of the United Nations, defined sustainability as the ability to meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to also meet their needs.
What is sustainability at NKU?
Sustainability at NKU takes on many different forms. From energy saving measures to environmental science education, sustainability can be found all across campus.
At NKU, sustainability is defined as the practice of shared stewardship of resources, both natural and man-made, to create and maintain healthful, equitable, livable, and fiscally responsible communities both locally and globally. Environmental Sustainability is the responsibility of all members of the campus community and is fundamental to the University's mission of education, scholarship and engagement.
